I like to think that we have all read The Vibe History of Hip Hop, or at least seen the VH1 special by the same name. But for those of you who haven't read or seen either, you should know that EVERY rapper of all time constantly refers to the work of NWA (otherwise know as Niggas Wit Attitudes) as the driving force behind the development of the popular genre of 'Gansta Rap'. You should also know that this body of work scared Tipper Gore and every other suburban mother in America shitless with its popularity. So scared in fact, that it was the catalyst for the now ubiquitous 'Parental Advisory' labels found on any cd containing profanity.
Why? Because it was chock full of obscenity! Delicious smatterings of ass, bitch, fuck, shit, nigga, niggette, and anything else that might get your grounded for even muttering near an adult.
But that was nearly 15 years ago, and things have changed. Standards for obscenity on television are not what they used to be; and if you feel like cussing on the radio, all you have to do is move your show to Sirius or the like. And think about this: unless you currently have a child under the age of 2, you say 'ass' instead of 'bottom'. And no one, I mean no one, says darn anymore: it's damn damn damn all the way.
What's the point of all of this you might ask? Have you ever listened to 'Straight Outta Compton'? My guess is you have never listened to it edited this way. link here

this is sad, sad, sad. 'Everybody' does it is an age old lie that apparently still works. Many people, young and old, see profanity as disrespectful, and the language of crude, uneducated people -- even in today's obscene society.
